Window Squeegees

A window squeegee is a rubber blade in a metal channel on a handle that pulls water off the glass in one pass for a streak-free finish. We stock the 35 cm Pullex stainless-steel window squeegee, its 71 cm replacement rubber, and the washer sleeve, bucket and scraper that go with it.

How to choose a window squeegee

Three things decide how well a window cleaning squeegee works: the width of the channel, the quality of the rubber, and a washer and bucket that match it.

Width

A 35 cm squeegee is the standard size for house windows: it fits most panes in two or three strokes and dips into a 15 litre bucket. Wider channels suit large shopfront glass. Our 35 cm Pullex window squeegee has a stainless-steel channel and a rubber grip handle.

Rubber

The rubber blade is the only part that touches the glass, so it decides whether you leave lines. Pullex TQR rubber is cut on both edges: turn it over when one edge dulls, then replace it with the 71 cm Pullex rubber, cut to the channel length. A nicked or hardened rubber streaks.

How to use a squeegee

Wet the glass with a washer, clear a dry strip along the top edge, then pull the squeegee down in straight, overlapping strokes (or an S-pattern), wiping the blade on a cloth after each pass. Finish by drying the edges and frame with a microfibre cloth.

Questions

What is the best squeegee for cleaning windows?

A stainless-steel channel with a replaceable, soft natural rubber blade, sized to your glass: for most house windows that is a 35 cm squeegee such as the Pullex, which takes 71 cm replacement rubber.

Is it better to clean windows with a squeegee?

Yes. A squeegee lifts the dirty water off the glass instead of spreading it, so the window dries without the streaks and lint that paper towel and newspaper leave. Wash first with a washer, then squeegee.

Which is better, silicone or rubber squeegee?

For window cleaning, rubber: a soft natural-rubber blade follows the glass and leaves it dry in one pass, which is why professional window squeegees use it. Silicone blades are common on shower and car squeegees.

How much does a window squeegee cost?

Our 35 cm Pullex stainless-steel window squeegee costs R410.00, and a 71 cm replacement rubber costs R110.00.
